Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage at Christina Lake

A group of Alberta's MLAs wearing coveralls and hardhats at the Christina Lake oil sands site

Had a great time yesterday touring and learning about MEG Energy's SAGD oil sands site at Christina Lake.

Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage is a made-in-Alberta innovation that drastically reduces land impacts while increasing efficiency in extraction. Coupled with steam-driven cogeneration, it also allows MEG to reduce the emissions generated.

I was encouraged by MEG's commitment to continued innovation and emissions reductions. It's approaches like this that will help Alberta continue building it's reputation as the greenest energy producer in the world.
